What is “Volta”?

“Volta” was the codename that turned into the ‘official’ project name that turned into a law suit. All is well, except that it’s dead (It was by far one of the best things Erik et al dreamed up and implemented. Such a shame it never saw the light of day as it was meant to, but so much goodness, like Rx, came out of it, so there’s that…).

In a few days on April 30 Microsoft will announce new technologies at Mix ’07 conference. One of those technologies could be something very similar what I have created – MSIL to Javascript compiler.

The world of development feels yet again smaller. If they do take away the uniqueness of the jsc project, i guess we will see what to do next.

Update: It seems tha Microsoft has killed Volta for now.

I asked officials whether Volta is being discontinued and they said that was not the case. But they also had no more to say about why the Volta code was removed or when it will be back online.
